Executives

David A. Yovanno

CEO

Dave is responsible for Marin’s overall strategic direction and execution. Prior to joining Marin in May 2014, Dave first joined Conversant, Inc. (formerly ValueClick, Inc.) in 2000 and held a number of leadership positions for U.S. media including executive vice president of sales and marketing, general manager and chief operating officer until 2008. Dave left Conversant in 2008 to be CEO of Gigya, a high-growth social technology SaaS company based in Silicon Valley, and then rejoined Conversant in 2011. Most recently, Dave served as President, Technology Solutions (formerly Mediaplex) for Conversant from 2011-2014 and was responsible for the company's Technology Solutions globally, Media Solutions internationally, the company's DSP solution, driving cross-solution synergies and assisting with the Company's corporate development program. Dave served on the board of the Interactive Advertising Bureau and in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant and CIO. Dave is a graduate of The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he earned his bachelor's degree in marketing and master's degree in health services administration.

  • Matt Ackley

    Chief Marketing Officer and SVP, Product

    Over the past 9 years Matt has held leadership positions in the online marketing and advertising functions as both eBay and Google. As Vice President of Internet Marketing and Advertising at eBay, Matt led the design and the development of eBay’s online marketing, trading desk and publisher platforms and charted eBay’s course in the digital marketing ecosystem. Matt also worked at Google where he chased his dream of the unified stack as the product marketing lead for the Doubleclick, Google Analytics and Youtube Advertising platforms. Outside of work, Matt can be found on the golf course or in some random northern California city at a soccer tournament for one of his three girls. Matt graduated cum laude from Duke University School of Engineering, and earned an MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business.
  • Avik Dey

    EVP, Technology

    Dey has over 25 years experience in technology management, with extensive expertise in platform development, business and technology strategy definition, team development, and program management. Dey joins Marin from Intel, where he was most recently Director of Hadoop Engineering and was responsible for managing a team of over 50 architects and engineers building world-class Apache Hadoop projects. He previously led large development teams at eBay, where he helped redefine strategy for Hadoop engineering investments and oversaw delivery of a large-scale in-house cloud environment, and Yahoo, where he was Lead Program Manager and delivered a Hadoop-as-a-Service product used by 1,000 users on 40,000 nodes.
  • John Kaelle

    EVP and CFO

    John brings more than 20 years of finance, investment banking and accounting leadership experience to Marin. Prior to joining the Company, John spent six years as Vice President of Finance and Investor Relations at Shutterfly, Inc., an internet-based personal publishing service, from October 2004 to March 2011. Prior to Shutterfly, John spent four years at Thomas Weisel Partners as a Vice President in the mergers and acquisitions group where he provided advisory services to technology companies. John began his career at Coopers and Lybrand, where he was a manager in the firm’s audit and advisory practice, and subsequently served as an Assistant Vice President and Assistant Controller at TriNet Corporate Realty Trust, a publicly traded real estate investment trust. John holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan, a Master’s Degree in Taxation from Golden Gate University and an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. John is also a certified public accountant (inactive) in the state of California.
  • Brian Kaminski

    Chief Customer Officer

    Brian leads the global customer success team where he is responsible for ensuring that customers are fully leveraging the Marin platform. In his role, Brian works closely with customers on new innovative means to meet their digital marketing goals. He also contributes to the overall strategic direction of Marin’s platform. Previously, Brian served as President of Business Performance at iProspect, leading new business development, marketing, and strategic client relationships. Brian joined iProspect in 2000 and contributed significantly to the firm’s growth in various leadership roles including founder and executive director of the San Francisco office, and Chief Operating Officer. He currently serves on the SEMPO Board of Directors, and enjoys presenting at client conferences and industry events around the world. Brian holds a B.A. in Political Science from Colgate University.
  • Stephen E. Kim

    EVP, General Counsel

    Stephen brings more than twenty years of legal experience to Marin. Prior to joining Marin, Stephen worked at Diamond Foods, Inc., a consumer packaged goods company headquartered in San Francisco. During his tenure at Diamond, Stephen was EVP, General Counsel and Chief Legal and Compliance Officer from March 2014 to September 2014; SVP, General Counsel from January 2008 to March 2014; and VP, General Counsel from March 2005 to January 2008. Previously, Mr. Kim served as General Counsel for Oblix, Inc., an enterprise software company in Cupertino, California, from 2000 to March 2005, at which time Oblix was acquired by Oracle Corporation. Before joining Oblix, Mr. Kim was an attorney with Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich and Rosati, a law firm located in Palo Alto, California, from 1996 to 1999 and Weil Gotshal & Manages, a law firm located in New York, New York, from 1994 to 1996. Mr. Kim received his J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he was an editor with the NYU Law Review, and earned his B.A. from Johns Hopkins University.
  • Chris Lien

    Founder and Executive Chairman

    Chris supports Marin’s overall strategic direction and execution. Chris founded Marin in 2006 and shortly thereafter invited Wister Walcott and Joe Chang to join him on the quest to develop an enterprise-class, online advertising management platform. Chris served as Marin's CEO from founding until May 2014 at which time he assumed the role of Executive Chairman. Prior to Marin, Chris served as Chief Operating Officer of Adteractive, an online performance marketing company, from 2004 to 2005. In 2001, Chris co-founded Sugar Media, a broadband services platform, which was sold in 2003 to 2Wire, a leading supplier of DSL equipment and services, which was subsequently acquired by Pace plc in 2010. Prior to founding Sugar Media, Chris served in various capacities, including as Chief Financial Officer and acting Chief Executive Officer, of BlueLight.com, Kmart’s e-commerce and Internet service provider subsidiary. Prior to Bluelight.com, Chris spent 10 years executing merger and financing transactions at investment banks, including Morgan Stanley and Evercore Partners, with his last role as managing director. Chris graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from Dartmouth College and earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
  • Wister Walcott

    Co-founder and EVP, Operations

    Wister is currently responsible for running the Marin application and technical support teams. The original product architect for the Marin application, he now serves as an advocate on behalf of our customers for world-class usage and optimization experiences with Marin. He is also responsible for the design and execution of Marin’s data security and privacy policies. A noted industry speaker, Wister has deep domain expertise in digital marketing topics including Social advertising, Retargeting, SEO, SEM, revenue attribution, and optimization. From 2004 to 2005, Wister was the Vice President of Marketing at Composite Software, an enterprise data integration software provider. Prior to that, Wister served for over 10 years in various leadership and product management roles at Siebel Systems, a CRM software provider now part of Oracle, and at Oracle directly, where he focused on enterprise applications, including SaaS-based, data warehousing, and marketing automation apps. Wister holds a B.S. in Computer Science (with honors) from Harvard University and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.
  • Russell Wirth

    Chief Sales Officer

    As Chief Sales Officer, Russell is globally responsible for all new business revenue across both Agencies and Advertisers. Russell has extensive experience ramping up revenue and deploying effective & scalable sales practices for rapidly growing companies in the business intelligence, media and analytics industries. Prior to Marin Software, Russell was SVP Sales at several SaaS start-ups including Overtone, a social sentiment analytics provider and PopularMedia a creative media optimization platform. Previously, as VP Sales at Coremetrics, Russell oversaw revenue growth for this Web Analytic innovator from $4 to $45 million with an increase in customers from 100 to over 1,000 in a 4 year period. Earlier in his career, Russell also served as VP of Business Development at IRI Software, a Nielson competitor, and headed up Western Regional Sales for enterprise reporting provider Crystal Decisions. Russell graduated with honors from Colorado College with a degree in Business / Economics.
